Can you get drug charges for growing marijuana?

Colorado has some of the most ground-breaking marijuana laws in the United States. It is legal to buy, sell, possess and grow marijuana. However, there are still a few things you need to know about this process, or you could run into drug charges. Don't just assume that the laws now mean you are free to do as you please when it comes to growing your own.

First and foremost, you can only grow six marijuana plants. This is on a per person basis, so two adults living in the same home could each grow their own six plants, if they so desired.

However, 12 plants is the max, regardless of how many individuals live in the home. Four adults all living in a house together could still only grow 12 plants, not 24.

Additionally, a maximum of three of these plants can be flowering at the same time. This is the mature stage of plant growth. If more than three are mature at once, you could still face charges, even if you only have six total.

Finally, you must be at least 21 years old to buy and grow marijuana plants. It is still regulated, even though it is legal, based on age.

It is worth noting that these laws apply to people who want to grow the plants in their homes, for their own use. There are different laws for those who decide to grow on a commercial basis, as they'll need to go through a longer process in order to be allowed to do so.

These laws are new and there is always the chance that they could change, so be sure you keep an eye on them in the future.
