Driver of armored car found in Colorado, charged with theft

On Dec. 24, a 24-year-old driver for an armored car company was taken into custody in Colorado and charged after he was believed to have involved in a heist. The vehicle involved in the alleged incident was reportedly recovered on Dec. 22, approximately a half-hour after it went missing.

After the vehicle was recovered, investigators allegedly uncovered evidence that the man had discussed how a theft could be committed with others and that he had access to firearms. It was believed that, following the theft, the accused man used a white 1995 Ford van as a getaway vehicle, which was recovered the following day. When the accused man was taken into custody, a second person was also brought in, though it was not clear if that person was involved in the alleged incident. The report stated that all of the $200,000 that was allegedly stolen was recovered by the authorities.

The severity of a theft charge is determined by the value of the property that was allegedly stolen. Depending on this value, an accused person could potentially face severe consequences that include a jail sentence and probation.

There are a number of strategies that a criminal defense attorney may use to defend their client against the charges. The accused person could argue that the property was theirs, though they will need to provide evidence that this is the case. Depending on what the stolen property was, the person may be able to simply return the item, which may reduce the charges and the punishments associated with them.
