Accident leads to DUI charges for a truck driver

A truck driver was involved in a car accident that put three people in the hospital. The man, who is from Colorado, was then picked up by the police on allegations that he was intoxicated at the time of the crash. He is 42 years old.

Witnesses reported that the man was in his tractor-trailer near an intersection when it slammed into numerous vehicles. This happened right around 6:42 p.m. One woman had a broken back.

The driver, however, told officers that he was unsure what had transpired or why the crash took place. Reports do say that he admitted to drinking and that officers found Fireball whiskey in his truck. The pint was allegedly open when they found it and it was sitting on his truck's dash.

Though he admitted to drinking, the man did say that he hadn't consumed any alcohol for nearly two hours, claiming his last drink was right around 5:00 in the evening. However, when a blood test was conducted, it allegedly showed that his BAC (blood alcohol concentration) came in at .364 percent. That's far over the limit.

The man may also have another drunk driving arrest on his record, which he said happened about four months before this recent arrest.

For those working in the trucking industry, DUI charges are nothing to take lightly, especially when a driver may have multiple incidents on their record. These charges and convictions can make it impossible for the driver to continue in their chosen profession. The financial impact is enormous, going far beyond the initial fines. Drivers must know exactly what legal options they have.
